The first level of my upcoming game for the original Game Boy!

The screen automatically scrolls horizontally.

Use the D-Pad (Arrow Keys or WASD in the browser) to move in eight directions.

The B Button (Z or K in the browser) launches a sound wave blast. Collect the Note power up which allows shots to be reflected back. If a reflected shot contacts the bat again, it will break up into a three-way attack!

The A Button (X or L in the browser) unleashes a powerful Skull attack that clears all enemies on screen. If you have enough Skulls that is!

The Start Button (Enter in the browser) pauses the game, of course, but also allows you to see how many Hearts and Skulls you have left.

Run out of Hearts and you are done for...

If enough enemies are destroyed, a power up will be activated and slowly float towards the top of the screen.  Grab it before it gets away!

The full game is probably 80% completed and getting closer every week. Feedback is greatly appreciated, and thanks for playing in either case!

Just played again... it's fun :) Sorry to bother again :D

There is something compelling about the refection mechanics. I wish I could say I knew what I was doing at the start, but it just turned out that way!

Does anything stand out to you that could be tweaked or adjusted? Is it too easy or too hard? It's hard to get a good impression of the overall difficulty from just one level, of course.

Well it's hard. It needs a few tries to master. Maybe this level should be considered as Level 2 or so :) (from it's difficulty)

Good to know! I actually intend it to be a little on the tough side, but hopefully not as hateful as Ghouls and Ghosts for example. I may keep the power up progression fairly forgiving in that case.

Really cool! The reflectible sound wave is so satisfaying

I knew I was on the right track when I kept playing the first level when I got it all working!

👍

Looks promising, keep up the good work!

Thanks!

This is so much fun! The bullet bouncing mechanic forces the player to make lots of risks. I like it!

There are certain situations in which the diagonal reflections will get you out of tight spots. I try not to make it feel unfair though!
