Squeak!
It has been at least two years (with breaks) since I first started working on this project. It is written entirely in assembly because it is what I feel most comfortable with, and all assets were created by just myself. Thinking back on how much I have built for this project from scratch gives me vertigo! It is still not done, but the end is in sight: All five main levels are working properly and music is written for them. Excluding whatever final boss I come up with, all the level bosses are designed if not fully implemented in the full game.
What remains to be done?
I want to rewrite the hit box routines because they are a bit of a mess, and checking collision with anything that isn't a 16x16 pixel square requires too much messing around.
An attract mode "How to play" sequence will start after a while on the title screen.
The power up routines need a bit of tweaking.
Boss programming needs to be completed after I get hit boxes working in a sensible manner.
The end of the game is a bit fuzzy, but I have some ideas and some as of yet unused graphical assets that I can use.
I have gone part time at my normal people job to dedicate a day strictly to game development, so the game will be released at one time or another! My goal is to release the full game by Halloween 2024. Maybe it goes without saying that I will be looking into getting a physical release, too. :D Watch this space for any major updates.
